Description:

National security has traditionally been the domain of diplomats and military strategists. But as money flows across borders to finance terrorism and weapons proliferation, global banking officials are increasingly finding themselves on the front lines of national security policy. This panel took place April 17, and featured financial leaders and experts from the private sector, government, academia, and journalism.

Moderated by GAGE Visiting Scholar Rachel Loeffler, the panel will include:

  • David Aufhauser, Managing Director of UBS AG and former General Counsel for the U.S. Treasury Department
  • Kimberly Elliott, Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics and Center for Global Development
  • Glenn Simpson, investigative reporter for the Wall Street Journal
  • Robert Werner, Managing Director at Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. and former Director of the Treasury Department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as well as former Director of the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control.
