American Forum - The Next New Orleans?
September 23, 2005 - December 13, 1901
Dell Upton, architectural historian, will discuss earlier New Orleans floods, and the reaction to the destruction they caused. William Morrish, an architect who works on issues of metropolitan urban design, will speak on the possibilities for rebuilding New Orleans. Upton and Morrish are professors at the University of Virginia School of Architecture. As background for this special Forum, guests are invited to read "Drowning New Orleans" in the October 2001 Scientific American and the introductory and concluding chapters of The Resilient City: How Modern Cities Recover From Disaster, Lawrence J. Vale and Thomas J. Campanella, editors (Oxford University Press, 2005).
