David J. Hayes, Deputy Secretary of the Interior, has been the Department’s main point person on the Gulf oil spill clean-up. He will address federal-state-corporate responsibility during a crisis, as well as longer-term plans for protecting the coastal environment. Hayes served as the Deputy Secretary and Counselor to the Secretary of the Interior in the Clinton administration. He was also a former chairman of the Board of the Environmental Law Institute, a senior fellow for the World Wildlife Fund, and a consulting professor at Stanford University’s Woods Institute for the Environment.
