JOHN DOWER, winner of the National Book Award in 1999 for “Embracing Defeat,” is professor emeritus of history at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His most recent book is “Cultures of War: Pearl Harbor/Hiroshima/9-11/Iraq.” In addition to writing many books and articles about Japan and the United States in war and peace, Dower is a founder and co-director of the online “Visualizing Cultures” project, which is dedicated to the presentation of image-driven scholarship on East Asia in the modern world. A book signing will follow his Forum.
