March 18, 2011
11:00AM - 12:00PM (EDT)
MATT POTTINGER, the 2010-11 Edward R. Murrow Press Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, covered China for The Wall Street Journal and Reuters News Agency. In 2005, he put his writing career on hold to serve five years as a U.S. Marine and completed combat deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, Pottinger spearheaded an investigation into problems with the U.S. intelligence effort, which resulted in the 2010 report, “Fixing Intel: A Blueprint for Making Intelligence Relevant in Afghanistan.” A recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Pottinger finished active duty in 2010 to resume civilian life as a writer.
