As part of the Virginia Festival of the Book, the Miller Center's Will Hitchcock (The Age of Eisenhower: America and the World in the 1950s) joins John Farrell (Richard Nixon: The Life) and Sharon Weinberger (The Imagineers of War: The Untold Story of DARPA, the Pentagon Agency that Changed the World) to discuss their masterful portraits of the presidents and the secret work of DARPA, and where their stories collide.

Will Hitchcock

William Hitchcock, author of The Age of Eisenhower, is the Randolph P. Compton Professor at the Miller Center and professor of history at the University of Virginia. His previous book was The Bitter Road to Freedom, a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

John Farrell in profile

John Farrell

John A. Farrell, author of Richard Nixon: The Life, has also written biographies of Clarence Darrow and Speaker Thomas “Tip” O’Neill. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and worked as White House correspondent, Spotlight reporter and Washington editor for the Boston Globe. Richard Nixon: The Life won the PEN America prize for the best biography of 2017 and the New-York Historical Society’s Barbara and David Zalaznick Book Prize.
