President Harry Truman delivered the State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress on January 4, 1950. He opened the speech by stating, “I am happy to be able to report to you today that the state of the Union continues to be good,” and the rest of the speech remained optimistic about America’s position at home and internationally.
