President Gerald Ford addressed the nation and a joint session of Congress in his State of the Union address in January 1975. The President’s first State of the Union was primarily focused on the struggling economy, and he spoke bluntly to the American people saying, “We owe it to ourselves and to posterity to rebuild our political and economic strength.”
