Addressing the United Nations

President Dwight Eisenhower, at podium, appeared before the United Nations Assembly in December 1953 to deliver a speech entitled “Atoms for Peace,” which promoted peaceful uses of atomic energy.  The President hoped to transfer nuclear science into the public sphere in order to warn the American people of its devastating potential in warfare and instead encourage uses which would benefit society.
