Calvin Coolidge ran as the vice presidential candidate on the Republican Party ticket in 1920. He was elected along with President Warren Harding. After Harding died in 1923, Coolidge ascended to the presidency. He was reelected in 1924, but he chose not to run for reelection in 1928 and instead retired to Massachusetts to write his autobiography.
