Cuban Invasion Brigade

During a December 1962 trip to Miami, Florida, President John Kennedy, left, and Mrs. Kennedy, center, spoke with members of the 2506 Cuban Invasion Brigade. In April 1961, members of the Brigade attempted to oust Cuban leader Fidel Castro. The invasion, commonly referred to as the Bay of Pigs, failed immediately and resulted in surrender, loss of life, and tremendous diplomatic embarrassment for the United States.
