First Lady Edith Roosevelt

Although Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt saw her primary roles as First Lady as being wife to President Theodore Roosevelt and mother to their six children, she expanded the position in several ways. Mrs. Roosevelt was responsible for renovations and upgrades to the White House, establishing the tradition of displaying presidential china, and the first First Lady to have a paid staff.
