Source: The Library of Congress

Abraham Lincoln married Mary Todd on November 4, 1842. Todd was the daughter of a prominent slave-owning family from Kentucky. Together, the Lincolns had four sons, however, only one, Robert Todd Lincoln, survived into adulthood. It was the general rule of the White House that Mary Todd Lincoln could burst in on her husband without notice to discuss family or politics.
