Hannah Hoes Van Buren

In 1807, Martin Van Buren married lifelong acquaintance Hannah Hoes. The couple had four sons and settled near Van Buren’s hometown of Kinderhook, New York. Mrs. Van Buren died in Albany, New York in 1819. President Van Buren never remarried and relied upon his daughter-in-law, Angelica Van Buren, to fulfill the duties of the First Lady during his time in the White House.
