October 09, 1964
Source: National Archives

In October 1964, President Lyndon Baines Johnson greeted his wife in New Orleans, Louisiana, at the end of her whistle stop tour in support of her husband’s presidential campaign. Having ascended to the presidency following the assassination of President John Kennedy, Johnson won the office in his own right by defeating Republican Barry Goldwater with a 10 to 1 margin in the Electoral College.
