Louisa Catherine Adams

London-born Louisa Catherine Johnson married American statesman John Quincy Adams in 1797.  The pair had four children.  Louisa Adams is most remembered as an inactive First Lady who despised the ceremonial duties of her role and called the White House “a prison;” however, she was also a major influence on her husband’s presidential campaigns and worked actively to ensure his electoral success.
