Source: The Library of Congress

Following his presidential term, John Quincy Adams served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1830 to 1848. Adams was recognized for his oration and his passionate opposition to slavery, earning him the nickname of “Old Man Eloquent” among his colleagues. Historically, Adams has won more acclaim for his long congressional career than for his earlier presidency.
