John Tyler’s retention of William Henry Harrison’s entire cabinet proved to be detrimental to his presidency. Hostilities between President John Tyler and the Whig Party came to head after Tyler’s veto of a bill to resurrect the Bank of the United States. Following the veto, his entire cabinet resigned in protest, with the exception of Secretary of State Daniel Webster.
