August 04, 1923
Source: The Library of Congress

On August 4, 1923, President Calvin Coolidge posed for a picture at his desk. The black band around his arm observes the death of his predecessor, President Warren Harding, just two days prior. President Coolidge served the remainder of Harding's term and then was elected to one full term. After the presidency, Coolidge retired to Vermont to write his autobiography.
