On September 15, 1959, President Dwight Eisenhower, front right, welcomed Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev, front left, to the United States. The leaders spent time at Camp David, Maryland. Although they did not achieve an arms control agreement, they established goodwill and optimism between their two countries.
