In December 1975, President Gerald Ford, right, met with George H. W. Bush, his former envoy to China and chosen Director of Central Intelligence.  The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was emerging from a difficult period in its history, and Ford brought in Bush to raise morale and reform the agency-a job he performed ably by most accounts.
