Source: The Library of Congress

William Henry Harrison was born into one of Virginia's elite families. The Declaration of Independence bears the signature of his father, Benjamin, who served three terms as governor of Virginia. William's mother, Elizabeth Bassett Harrison, hailed from one of the colony's earliest and most prestigious families. He grew up at the family plantation, Berkeley, just thirty miles from Yorktown, Virginia.
