July 23, 1966
Source: Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum

In July 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson spoke to a crowd supporting American involvement in the Vietnam War while in Indianapolis, Indiana. Despite this show of support, the war was extremely unpopular, and President Johnson's struggles there became the defining element of his presidency. LBJ Library photo by Yoichi R. Okamoto.
