President Kennedy’s Civil Rights Address

President John F. Kennedy addressed the nation on civil rights from the Oval Office on June 11, 1963. This speech was in response to the use of National Guardsmen for school integration in Alabama. President Kennedy stated that “It ought to be possible, therefore, for American students of any color to attend any public institution they select without having to be backed up by troops.”
