February 26, 1987
Source: National Archives

On February 26, 1987, President Reagan received the Tower Commission Report, presented by Senator John Tower, left, and former Secretary of State Edmund Muskie, right. The Tower Commission was created to investigate Iran-Contra, a scandal in which high White House officials were implicated in trading arms for hostages.  President Reagan largely accepted responsibility for the scandal, apologized, and ordered his administration to cooperate fully with the investigation.
