President Roosevelt, second from right, sails with sons John, right, Franklin D., Jr., second from left, and James, left. Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt had a daughter and four sons. In 1921, Roosevelt was diagnosed with polio, and during his presidency, he struggled to maintain the secret that he was crippled by the disease. His family was instrumental in providing emotional and political support during his presidency.
