Roosevelt at the Casablanca Conference

January 18, 1943
Source: National Archives

In January 1943, President Franklin Roosevelt traveled to Casablanca, Morocco, to meet with Prime Minister Winston Churchill of Britain to plan further military strategy for both theaters of World War II.  In an effort not to appear weak, President Roosevelt was adamant about not being photographed in his wheelchair, so many pictures from his presidency feature him sitting down.
