Suez Canal Crisis

In 1956, Israeli forces—bolstered by the British and French—invaded the Sinai Peninsula in response to Egypt nationalizing the Suez Canal.  President Dwight Eisenhower spoke out condemning the attacks on October 31, 1956. Eisenhower felt the aggression would only solidify support for Egyptian nationalism, and he used American diplomatic sway to end the campaign.
