The Presidential Funeral

Source: The Library of Congress

The coffin of President William McKinley in the horse-drawn cart proceeded through the streets of Canton, Ohio, where he was buried on September 18, 1901. McKinley's assassin, Leon F. Czolgosz, admitted to the shooting, stating he believed McKinley to be an “enemy of the people, the good working people.” Czolgosz expressed no remorse for his actions and died in the electric chair on October 29, 1901.
