Theodore Roosevelt in Africa

As President, Theodore Roosevelt wanted to increase the influence and prestige of the United States on the world stage. Believing that a large and powerful Navy was an essential component of national defense, Roosevelt expanded the Navy into one of the largest in the world. In December 1907, Roosevelt sent the “Great White Fleet” on a world tour to impress and demonstrate America's growing strength and power.
