Vice Presidential Campaign

August 09, 1920
Source: National Archives

In 1920, Franklin Roosevelt campaigned in his hometown of Hyde Park, New York.  Roosevelt was the Democratic Party’s nominee for Vice President on a ticket led by Governor James Cox.  Cox and Roosevelt lost in a landslide to Republican nominee Warren Harding in November, making Roosevelt the only U.S. President to run for Vice President and lose before making a successful run for President.
