In June 1962, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy, at microphone, opened the refurbished White House Treaty Room while Vice President Lyndon Johnson, third from left, and others watched. She worked diligently to secure private donations to transform the house into a living history museum and gave a widely viewed televised tour of the finished project.
