Papers — William Henry Harrison (1773 - 1841)

William Henry Harrison

The majority of William Henry Harrison's papers were destroyed by fire in 1858. The best source for his papers is the microfilm collection from the Library of Congress. This microfilm is available at a number of institutions, including Alderman Library at the University of Virginia through which the Scripps Library has access. In addition, a two volume set of Harrison's papers was published in 1922 and reprinted in 1975; however, it only includes material from his time as Governor of Indiana.

For the official papers of Harrison during his Presidency, see James Richardson's Compilation of the Messages and Papers of the Presidents. This retrospective compilation was published in several different editions. The final edition was published in 1918 in 20 volumes. This edition covers the Presidencies of Washington through Taft and includes a significant portion of Wilson's Presidency. The contents of the Compilation are typically limited to official proclamations, addresses, and messages.
