GEORGE PACKER has covered the Iraq War for The New Yorker since 2003. His book, The Assassins' Gate: America in Iraq, (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2005), was named one of the ten best books of 2005 by the New York Times. Packer has also written about the atrocities committed in Sierra Leone, civil unrest in the Ivory Coast, the megacity of Lagos, and global counterinsurgency. He is also the author of The Village of Waiting (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1988) and Blood of the Liberals (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2000), which won the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award. Packer has contributed to the New York Times Magazine, Dissent, Mother Jones, Harpers, and other publications. A book signing will follow his Forum.
