Schuyler received her Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 2001, where she concentrated in U.S. Southern and Women's History. Currently, she is the Assistant Dean for the College of Arts & Sciences at UVa. and a lecturer for the Department of History. Her first book, The Weight of Their Votes: Southern Women and Political Leverage in the 1920s (forthcoming, UNC PRESS, 2006), which reconsiders the meaning of the Nineteenth Amendment. She has taught several courses at UVa., including U.S. Society and Politics, 1900-40, and the South in the Twentieth Century.
