BRANTLY WOMACK is Professor of Foreign Affairs at U.Va. and an honorary professor at Jilin University in Changchun and East China Normal University in Shanghai. He is the co-author of Foundations of Mao Zedong's Political Thought, 19171935 (University of Hawaii Press, 1982) and Politics in China (Scott Foreman & Co., 1986) and the editor of numerous books, including Contemporary Chinese Politics in Historical Perspective (Cambridge University Press, 1991). Womack has frequently visited China and Vietnam, and his articles comparing their politics and exploring their relationship have appeared in World Politics, Government and Opposition, China Journal, and Asian Survey. Other articles on international relations have appeared in the Journal of Strategic Studies, the Journal of Contemporary China, and Pacific Affairs.
