The host of MSNBC's Hardball and NBC's The Chris Matthews Show, CHRIS MATTHEWS has covered every American presidential election campaign since the 1980s. Matthews served as Washington bureau chief for the San Francisco Examiner and national columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle. He also worked for Senators Frank Moss of Utah and Edmund Muskie of Maine, as a presidential speechwriter for President Carter, and as the top aide to Speaker of the House "Tip" O'Neill. Matthews has received the David Brinkley Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.
