Description: Served on the first Hoover Commission, 1947-49. Vermont politician who rose rapidly in the Republican Party, starting as a state legislature, later state Governor and finally Senator. While in the Senate, he sat on both the foreign relations committee as well as the agricultural committee. Senator Aiken recounts Hoover's mental state before and during the commission as well as his work ethic and administrative style. Aiken readily compliments Hoover but is acutely aware of his shortcomings as well.
