Owner of the Brown and Root construction firm. Brown and Root became involved in several international projects, including air and naval bases in Guam, Spain, and France and military bases in Vietnam. Besides military projects the firm built offshore drilling facilities in the North Sea, as well as the required barges and pipelines. One of the firm's uncompleted, undertakings was Project Mohole, which sought to drill through Earth's crust in an effort to determine the composition of the core. Brown credits Johnson for contriving the idea to drill through the earths crust.
