Member of the National Park Service (1939-1969). Became assistant director of the National Capital Region in Washington D.C. in 1961, and advanced into the directorship of that system before going to the Palisades Interstate Parks Commission in 1969. Among his responsibilities in the NPS, he assisted Lady Bird Johnson, who used her position as First Lady to advance beautification projects throughout the nation.
