Relief worker during the Great Depression, a lobbyist, and a campaign worker for Progressive Party candidate Henry Wallace, Washington D.C, in the 1940s. Candidate for governor of Virginia (1948). A civil rights worker in Montgomery, AL, in the 1950s and 1960s who cooperated with her husband to provide legal advice to blacks and supported the Freedom Riders and the Voting Rights Act. The Durrs helped Rosa Parks to take her case to the Supreme Court. Virginia Durr also helped organize the Montgomery bus boycott.
