Albert (D-Oklahoma) was elected to the House in 1946 and named majority whip in 1955 and majority leader in 1962. In the House he strongly supported President Johnson?s legislation, especially the antipoverty bill. Albert was a strong supporter of President Johnson?s foreign policy and pushed for greater executive power in international politics.
