Speaker: Luther E. Jones, Jr.
Date: June 13, 1969
Became acquainted with Johnson when the latter worked as a teacher of speech at Central High School in Texas, where Luther Jones was a student on the debate team. He worked as assistant secretary to Congressman Richard Kleberg while Johnson was Kleberg?s secretary. He later roomed with Johnson in Austin, Texas, and worked part-time for the NYA (essentially as Johnson?s personal secretary) while Johnson was the director of its Texas division. Heavily involved in Johnson?s 1937 campaign for Congress. Served as Johnson?s temporary secretary in Congress and then joined the Justice Department. Had contact with Johnson over the Fort Worth case.
