Schmidt discusses the work he did with the AFL-CIO, but also addresses Johnson?s congressional campaigns in the context of the factions and splits in the Texas Democratic Party, as well as discusses Johnson?s method of conducting politics on a personal level, and the influence of local papers on state politics. Additionally, Schmidt offers his take on Johnson?s acceptance of the Democratic nomination for Vice President.
