Presidential portrait painter. Shoumatoff first recalls painting President Franklin D. Roosevelt?s portrait. Later, she painted portraits of both Mr. and Mrs. Johnson while they were in the White House. Toward the end of Johnson?s presidency, Shoumatoff went to the Johnson ranch to paint another portrait of him. She provides an account of the Johnson family?s life on the ranch.
