As a White House special assistant (1965-1969), William Watson served as appointments secretary and as liaison with Democratic governors, the Democratic National Committee, big-city mayors, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After Bill D. Moyer?s resignation as White House chief of staff, Watson assumed many of his duties. He also served as the Postmaster General (1968-1969). As a member of the Texas State Democratic Committee, Watson established one of the first Johnson-for-President clubs in Texas (1960). He acted as Johnson?s convention coordinator at the 1964 Democratic National Convention.
