Description:
Martin Anderson illustrates his service in the campaigns and administrations of Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan. Anderson first talks about his work on Nixon's 1968 presidential campaign, the transition to power, and his appointment and three years of service in the first Nixon term. A major section of the interview is devoted to the 1976 and 1980 presidential elections, where Anderson served as a senior policy advisor to Reagan and helped shape the platforms of each campaign. Anderson then discusses the 1980 transition and his thirteen-month appointment as head of the Office of Policy Development. Anderson also comments on the organization of the White House staff, and evaluates the major policy issues of the first year, most notably the passage of the economic recovery program. As editor of two volumes of Reagan's writings and speeches, Anderson sheds a unique light on the mind of Ronald Reagan and his passion for engaging ideas.
