Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt is senior managing director of the energy and critical minerals practice at McLarty Associates and a distinguished fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Global Energy Center. He held a variety of senior leadership positions across a distinguished 35-year career in the U.S. Foreign Service.
As assistant secretary of state for energy resources (2022-2025), he was the country's chief energy diplomat, leading U.S. diplomacy to mobilize international support for Ukrainian energy resilience and counter Russian weaponization of its energy resource.
Pyatt also led negotiations with U.S. allies on energy security partnerships and critical mineral agreements. He served as ambassador to Greece (2016-2022) across the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations and was U.S. ambassador to Ukraine (2013-2016).
Earlier in his career, Pyatt was the principal deputy assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs as well as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, Austria, where he represented the United States before the IAEA.
Pyatt was nominated to career ambassador — the highest rank in the U.S. Foreign Service — and is the recipient of numerous federal honors, including the Presidential Meritorious Service Award and Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Award. He serves in several corporate advisory roles, including the Excelerate Energy international advisory board, the U.S.-India Business Council board of directors, Business Executives for National Security, and the advisory council of the Partnership to Address Global Emissions (PAGE).
