UVa panel examines Trump's impact on the presidency

The panel consisted of four differing political figures — Brit Hume, a senior political analyst for Fox News; Ana Navarro, a Republican commentator and strategist; Marc Short, a former assistant to President Donald Trump; and Symone D. Sanders, a Democratic strategist and CNN political commentator. Notably, the panel was one of the first times Short has spoken publicly since it was announced in July that he had been offered a fellowship at UVa’s Miller Center. Short’s addition to the presidential think tank prompted controversy and led to resignations within the center.

Four political pundits took the stage at the University of Virginia to debate whether or not President Donald Trump has changed the American presidency. Former Trump staffer Marc Short, Republican strategist Ana Navarro, Democratic strategist Symone Sanders, and Fox News political analyst Brit Hume all weighed in, and they weren’t always in agreement.

Short, the only panelist who had worked within the Trump administration, told the audience that the president does listen to staff and take differing opinions into account. He also touted the administration’s accomplishments so far, particularly economic growth, deregulation and the appointment or expected appointment of two Supreme Court justices and numerous other judges.
