ELIZABETH COBBS HOFFMAN is a winner of the Allan Nevis Prize for literary distinction in the writing of history. She holds the Dwight Stanford Chair in American Foreign Relations at San Diego State University and is the author of "All You Need is Love: The Peace Corps and the 1960s." She is presently writing a new synthesis of U.S. foreign policy from 1648 to 2010 at Stanford's Hoover Institution, and will be releasing her first novel, "Broken Promises, A Novel of the Civil War" on March 29.
